Xiaomi's Mi 5 flagship will be officially revealed on the 24th of February, thus putting an end to the months of waiting from fans. As Xiaomi is familiar with leaks and early revelations, the company has been kind enough to share some of the hardware details on its own. Its top brass had previously confirmed that the device would be packing the Snapdragon 820 SoC on board. What are some of the other rumors that we've heard about in the leaks so far? Let's have a look.
Camera
Just yesterday, the co-founder and President of Xiaomi, Lin Bin shared camera samples of the Mi 5 handset. While it was practically impossible to ascertain anything from those samples, it told us that the handset would be capable of taking some great images, although we would still wait for more images to come to a conclusion about its quality. It was previously mentioned that the handset would be packing a 16MP rear camera sensor and a 13MP front camera for selfies, which puts it at an advantage over the competition.
Display
Recently, we learnt that Xiaomi might be using a 1080p display for its Mi 5 flagship. However, there has been talk before that the company might instead resort to using a Quad HD or 2K display on board. It's safe to assume that Xiaomi will not compromise on the quality and user experience regardless of the display it uses.
Further, it is widely believed that Xiaomi will use a pressure sensitive display panel, much like Apple's Force Touch or 3D Touch display that's used on the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus. It will be very interesting to see what the company has in store for us with its implementation of this feature.
Battery
Since the Mi 5 will be packing a Snapdragon 820 chipset inside, the device should be automatically compatible with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 standard that was revealed with this processor back in November 2015. As for the battery itself, rumors have pegged the Mi 5 to be packing a 3,600 mAh unit.
This is an area where the Mi 5 could have a significant advantage over most of its competition that will step foot in the mobile industry by the end of this month. Battery life might be another reason to consider sticking to a 1080p display while most of the rivals are hurrying to get more pixel dense and powerful displays to the market.
Storage/RAM
For long now, rumors have been very consistent with regards to the storage and RAM details of the Mi 5 flagship. It has been claimed that the device will be available 3 and 4GB RAM variants, with 32 and 64GB storage options available. As is the case with Xiaomi's flagship offerings, there will be no expandable storage on board.
Software
As this is a flagship offering, one can expect to find a completely revamped user experience. However, with Xiaomi only recently updating MIUI for older devices, most fans are not hopeful of seeing a changed UI. But it has been mentioned that the handset would be packing Android 6.0 Marshmallow underneath, which should be enough reason for excitement among Xiaomi enthusiasts and fans.
Other features
Fingerprint scanning is a new technology for the company, but not necessarily the first. The Chinese manufacturer used this tech with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 a few months ago and is expected to bundle it with the Mi 5 as well. Unlike the Redmi Note 3 though, Xiaomi is expected to use the fingerprint scanner on the front right under the hardware home button, much like Samsung and Apple.
